I have a 2006 range rover sport which was parked up for a long period of time without driving. I had begun to drive it again recently but when pushing the accelerator up to around 100km/hr a warning light and 'Engine Systems Fault' or sometimes 'Special Programs Off' would come on with the immediate loss of power and speed. I would have to then pull over, turn off the engine, start up again to return to normal driving until I do the same thing again. This was a major problem as I had no confidence to overtake slow moving traffic.
I took it to service and they said that there was a turbo and EGR fault. I felt that i had no other choice but to replace them and it was done with quality tested used parts.
I got it back the other day and now when I accelerate hard to around 100km/hr the message 'Engine Systems Fault' comes on but now with no loss of power.
Other times the 'Special Programs Off' message will show and I will lose power and have to pullover.
Warning light does not show anymore.
Dealer says that it could be problem with parts I got but feel that the problem could be somethingelse...

Hopefully someone here can she'd some light on the problem.

      Thanks

This weekend I drove from Kent to Cornwall in my 2008 TDV8 and had set the cruise and set off. All was going well until I came to a hill in Cornwall where the speed limit is 60 but there is a lane to overtake. As I ascended the hill and wasn’t overtaking anything, there was a ‘bong’ and a message appeared saying “Engine System Fault”. I immediately lost power and was able to get over the brow and pull over into a lay-by. I turned off the engine and restarted it. The check control messages was showing OK and the car drove as normal to our destination. However, cruise was no longer working. At the destination I turned off the engine and took out the key. I re-inserted it and started the car and now the cruise function was working again.

I used the car for some local journeys throughout the day and the message never reappeared. Returning to Kent yesterday, shortly after leaving Truro there is a bypass with an incline, as we began our ascent, the Engine System Fault message appeared again. I pulled off the road, turned off, removed the key, re-inserted the key, started up and pressed the check control button which everything was OK and set off again. The car was fine
