    Headly was born on March 13, 1955 in New London, Connecticut.[2] Her first years were spent living under the care of her mother, Joan Ida (née Sniscak) Headly,[3] in San Francisco, and her maternal grandmother in Lansford, Pennsylvania.

    Early in her elementary school years, she joined her mother, who was then living in Greenwich Village. She studied ballet at the Robert Joffrey school of ballet and modern dance at the Martha Graham 

    Glenne Headly, a crucial force in the storied early years of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and a former Chicago stage actress who enjoyed a rich, varied and significant career in film and television, died this week at the age of 62.

The couple moved from Chicago to New York together, a return to the East Coast for Headly who was a graduate of that city’s High School of the Performing Arts.

    During Headly’s six years in Chicago, she appeared in multiple roles at Steppenwolf including acclaimed work in “Goodnight Gracie,” “Mother Courage,” “Born Yesterday” and “Coyote Ugly.” Most famously, Headly appeared in Malkovich’s legendary 1980 Steppenwolf production of Lanford Wilson’s “Balm in Gilead.”
